Rules of play and tips for beginners
Tips
• The larger black ball is called a bowl. The small white ball is the jack.• The aim of the game is to get your bowl as close to the jack as possible.
• Bowls are weighted so that they don’t roll in a straight line, but in a curve.
• Each bowl has a small and large icon on each side. Always keep the small icon on the inside of your delivery.
• You will play on a green (of very short grass) which is divided into rinks. There is a ditch on the outside of the green to catch badly delivered bowls.
• You bowl from alternate ends, usually standing on a mat
Rules.
• Maximum group of 8 per rink
• Booking is for a three hour time period
• barefoot or socks preferred - but flat (no heel), rubber soled shoes ok
• Children 6-12 bowl for half price, but must be supervised on the green (no running or playing)
• For their own safety, children under 6 are not allowed on the greens
• Footwear must be worn at all times whilst in the clubhouse
• No Food or Drinks allowed on the green. Food and drinks are allowed on the bank but not on the green. This helps with the safety of others with accidental breakages etc.
• Strictly no driving (bowling at full speed)
• No running, jumping or any behavior that is not in the correct manner of the game of bowls that may hurt others, the bowls or the greens
The coach or coordinator for the day will show how to correctly deliver a bowl.
